Akil Baddoo scored the go-ahead run on Riley Greene's sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, fueling the visiting Detroit Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
Jonathan Schoop launched a solo homer and Miguel Cabrera, Eric Haase and Spencer Torkelson each drove in a run for the Tigers (58-92), who handed the fading White Sox (76-75) their fourth straight loss.
Chicago fell 7 1/2 games behind first-place Cleveland in the American League Central pending the Guardians' Friday night result against the Texas Rangers.
Eduardo Rodriguez (4-5) allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings to record his first win since Aug. 27. He struck out three and walked one.
Detroit's Alex Lange retired the side in order in the seventh inning before Jose Cisnero loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth. Andrew Chafin struck out Romy Gonzalez to end the threat. Gregory Soto worked a perfect ninth to secure his 27th save of the season.
AJ Pollock belted a two-run homer and Jose Abreu had an RBI single for the White Sox.
Detroit saw its early three-run lead vanish before it claimed a 4-3 advantage in the seventh inning.
Baddoo singled off Reynaldo Lopez (5-4) to lead off the inning, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Yasmani Grandal. Baddoo didn't stay on third for long, as he scored on Greene's sacrifice fly to center field.
Torkelson's RBI ground-rule double with two outs in the eighth inning gave the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
Detroit opened the scoring in the first inning when Greene walked, advanced to third on a double from Javier Baez and came around to score on a groundout from Cabrera. Haase stepped up two batters later and singled to center field to plate Baez and give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Schoop added to that advantage while leading off the second. He deposited a first-pitch fastball from Lucas Giolito over the wall in left field. The homer was Schoop's 11th of the season and second in five games.
Abreu's RBI single to right field trimmed Chicago's deficit in the third inning before the White Sox forged a 3-3 tie in the sixth.
Eloy Jimenez singled and Pollock sent a 1-1 sinker from Rodriguez over the wall in right-center field. Pollock's homer was his 14th and his third in his past five games.
