SHAN STATE, Myanmar - According to an officer who participated in the assault, two local defense forces have destroyed a military outpost in southern Shan State's Nyaungshwe Township, killing 15 troops and taking five as prisoners.
The outpost was shared by regime forces and members of the Pa-O National Army (PNA), an ethnic armed group allied with the Myanmar military. It was located in Hti Ri, a village near Nyaungshwe's border with Pekhon Township.
"We seized weapons and ammunition before fleeing in a car with the captured soldiers," said a deputy commander with the Pekhon People's Defence Force (PDF), one of the groups involved in the attack.
Since last year's coup, ethnic Karenni resistance groups have fought Myanmar's dictatorship in Pekhon Township, which borders Kayah (Karenni) State.
