SAN FRANCISCO - Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila LLP (RSHC) announces the addition of a new partner, Jamal Sadat Muhammad.
Muhammad brings with him experience in both the public sector and private practice, handling criminal trials and federal investigations, international investigations crossing multiple jurisdictions and countries, as well as civil investigations involving derivative shareholder litigation, sexual harassment, wire fraud, mail fraud, and honest services fraud.
Muhammad joins the Firm after spending the last seven years as a Trial Attorney for Federal Defenders of San Diego, the organization responsible for representing indigent persons accused of criminal offenses in federal court in the Southern District of California and in subsequent appellate matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and up to the U.S. Supreme Court.
"Having managed such an expansive and busy trial practice, Jamal applies sharp strategy and great efficiency to his work," said RSHC Managing Partner Patricia Brown Holmes. "His deep understanding of federal law enforcement agency directives has helped obtain dismissals in hundreds of criminal cases."
Prior to his work with Federal Defenders, Muhammad was an attorney at a large national law firm. There, he helped secure millions of dollars in damages, defended clients in class action lawsuits, and helped clients to testify in front of government agencies and committees. He was also a member of the trial team in the high-profile fraud case brought against businessman and newspaper publisher Conrad Black.
Muhammad received his law degree from Howard University School of Law. He is a graduate of Knox College.
"Building my practice at RSHC is an opportunity to apply all of my experience and interests at once," said Muhammad. "The Firm is committed to doing outstanding work for private clients and substantial pro bono work for the community. I'm excited to be part of such a culture of excellence."
