Africa's Legal Elite Recognised in Johannesburg
Johannesburg, South Africa – 6 September, 2019 – On the evening of Friday, September 6th, ALM's Legal Week announced the winners of the 2019 African Legal Awards at a ceremony held at The Wanderers Club in Johannesburg.
Hosted by Legal Week and The Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA), and partnered with Africa Legal, Save the Children & Without Prejudice, the awards recognised the exceptional achievements from Africa's legal community over the past year. The winners were honoured for handling the region's best legal work for top deals and most complex cases.
Legal Week and CCASA would like to thank the 26 judges, all legal professionals from a variety of continents around the globe, all who remarked on the high calibre of the entries and the difficult responsibility they were tasked with of deciding who should take home the trophies.
During her welcome speech, Alison Lee, CEO of CCASA and moderator of the judging process said that "reading through all the entries was an inspirational and humbling experience. What stood out from the entries were the amount of innovative and talented lawyers who rise to the challenge and who take on complicated multifaceted and sometimes impossible issues which address, challenge and sometimes recreate a multitude of legal issues and which to boot achieve objectives which I don-t think I am capable of achieving in my lifetime."
Winners at the gala included LNP Attorneys Inc. for African Law Firm of the Year – Small Practice and with Webber Wentzel awarded the Large Practice African Law Firm of the Year. General Counsel of the Year was awarded to Pieter Badenhorst from AFGRI Group and Partner of the Year was awarded to Funke Adekoya from Aelex.
"Congratulations to all the winners and finalists" said Paul Hodkinson, Editor-in-Chief, Legal Week. "We had a great representation of firms from across the continent this year, once again shining a light on the incredible talent from within Africa's legal sector"
